The Fight Against Domestic Violence

Alpha Chi Omega's national altruistic project is Domestic Violence Awareness. The Alpha Chi Omega Foundation supports educational programming for survivors of domestic violence and other philanthropic projects. Alpha Chi Omega was the first women’s fraternity to address the problems of domestic violence through assisting survivors, raising awareness, and educating our members and the community.

Locally, our chapter supports two local shelters, Laura's House and Human Options, organizations that dedicates themselves to breaking the cycle of domestic violence by offering emergency shelters, transitional housing, and counseling for survivors and their children.

Our sisters receive quarterly training on various related topics, including Domestic Violence Awareness, Healthy Relationships and Sexual Assault Awareness. Many of our sisters become state certified domestic violence advocates through Laura's House's training, and are able to volunteer at shelters and domestic violence hotlines.

Healthy Relationships Week

Each year, Alpha Chi Omega nationally celebrates Healthy Relationships Week, in which we spread awareness of what healthy relationships are like. We booth on campus, handing out resources and asking students what love means to them. They often answer that love is compassion, happiness and respect. Our social media campaigns highlight the aspects of healthy relationships, as well as potential red flags of abuse. Our sisters hold this week close to their hearts, and are passionate in our cause knowing that we can change lives by spreading awareness.

Valentine's Grams

Each year, Alpha Chi Omega hosts a Valentine's Grams booth on Ring Road the week before Valentine's Day. UCI students are able to buy handmade Valentine's Grams for their loved ones and Alpha Chi's deliver them on Valentine's Day. Through this activity, we spread ideas of healthy love throughout campus, while fundraising for our local shelters, Human Options and Laura's House.

Lyre Games

The Lyre Games are structured as a weeklong competition in which all Greek organizations can participate in. Throughout the week, organizations see who can raise the most points, by completing riddles, donating, and answering trivia. Our main events are Relay for DVA, in which organizations compete in obstacle courses, along with their Alpha Chi coaches. The week concludes with a campuswide event, in which we invite everyone into our homes for barbecue and a talent show. With the help of the UCI community, we were able to raise over $20,000 for our local shelters! When passionate people come together, anything is possible

Let's Taco Bout It

Let's Taco 'Bout It was a campuswide event that we hosted Winter quarter. The entire UCI community was invited into our home to learn about the widely ignored issue regarding domestic violence. Wristbands were sold as admission and all the proceeds were donated to our two local women's shelters, Laura's House and Human Options. Tacos, fun music, and good company were all provided at the event, all while guests learned interesting facts that brought awareness to an issue that we passionately care about.
